DENBIGH SWIMMERS MAKE A SPLASH

Denbigh Dragons Swim Club made a big impression at the Super Shrimps Gala in Holywell.  All of the North Wales clubs entered teams of 7-11 year olds, at a popular gala held over two days, last weekend.

Denbigh Dragons Super Shrimps at Holwell October 2007

Denbigh has always been recognised as a friendly young club but at this gala they put down their marker as serious contenders, in all events, and pushed all of the established clubs in every swim.

Saturday saw the individual events and with swimmers also scoring team points, Denbigh Dragons team coaches and spectators were delighted with 44 personal bests, 2nd place in the cannon and overall team bronze medal.

Sunday brought the relay events.  Again Denbigh Dragons shone.  All the squads achieved team and club personal bests, achieving medals and ribbons in every relay race entered.

Denbigh Dragons Swim Club train 5 times a week, Monday and Friday nights, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and Sunday afternoons.  The hard work of all the swimmers and coaches is really paying off.

Manchester Training a huge success!!!

Manchester training

Just a brief note to say 1st Manchester training of the Autumn went very well on Saturday. All the swimmers represented Denbighshire and their Clubs impeccably. Denbigh and Ruthin can be very proud. Particular note for several younger swimmers having their 1st time at Manchester, all did very well.

Thanks to Mark Jones for all his efforts.

Four Towns Gala at Denbigh .... Sunday 10th June

Denbigh Dragons Swim Club had the honour of hosting the 1st in a new series a galas to be fought for by swimming clubs from Chirk, Denbigh, Rhyl and Ruthin.

Denbigh Dragons Swim Club had the honour of hosting the 1st in a new series a galas to be fought for by swimming clubs from Chirk, Denbigh, Rhyl and Ruthin.

On a sweltering hot afternoon teams and supporters crammed into Denbigh Leisure centre to cheer on the swimmers aging from 7 to 15 years.

From the very 1st event it was clear this was going to be a  close competition and noisy affair. All the teams secured good wins and valuable points for their Clubs.

At the halfway stage Denbigh lead Ruthin by just one point, and everything was to swim for. As the gala reached its climax both teams were level on points with the relays and ‘double’ points up for grabs.

In the end Ruthin Rays just edged out Denbigh Dragons on the last race and deservedly picked up a magnificent new silver Cup to take back to their empty trophy cabinet.
Well done to all the teams and well done to Denbigh Dragons Club officials for a extremely well organised event, with a friendly atmosphere.

All clubs are looking forward to the next gala at Chirk on the 15th July.

Flint junior Gala .... SATURDAY 12TH MAY 2007 (PM)

Denbigh Dragons Swim Club Just Keep Getting Better

Denbigh Dragons Swim Club, junior swimmers really impressed at the Flint Gala on Saturday. Swimmers aged from 7 to 12 years competed in 41 events against longer Denbigh Dragons Swim Clubestablished teams from the Flintshire area. With senior North Wales swimming officials in attendance, Denbigh were out to impress and as ever have fun. Several performances were note worthy and the Dragons junior swimmers are likely to make a big contribution to North Wales age group squads in the future.

From the very 1st event Denbigh Dragons showed they meant business with fantastic individual and team relay swims providing:

A few members of the team were swimming in their very 1st gala having progressed into the squad via ‘Water Dragons’ swimming lessons.

At the end of an enjoyable, fun gala, Denbigh were only 2nd to hosts Flint and had established a Club record points tally. Well done to all the team and coaches. Thanks to Edna and all of Flint Swimming Club for a warm friendly welcome and superbly organised event.

Bangor Diddy Gala on Saturday 21st April 2007 for under 12's

The club is very proud of all its swimmers who not only swam their best but also behaved impeccably on what was a long but very rewarding day.

Wrexham Swimfest and Supershrimps 30th September-1st October 2006

Denbigh Dragons Swim Club were welcomed into the North Wales Amateur Swimming Association and made an immediate impact at the two-day swimming festival at Wrexham.

The festival was for 8-11 year olds and was a chance for local teams, plus teams from as far afield as Wigan to Stafford to show off some undoubted stars of the future.

Denbigh Dragons had 16 younger swimmers competing in both individual and relay events.Heats were seeded based on previous best times. In all events Denbigh Dragons were competing against the faster seedings.

Very impressively, every Denbigh swimmer swam a Personal Best time in the individual events! The relay teams smashed the clubs best times.

Most notable were the overall competition medals for Brooke Humphreys (Silver 9yr old girls 50m Breast stroke), and a Bronze medal for the Boys 9yr old Front Crawl relay team of Jack Wakeman, Steffan Griffiths, Jake Jones and Osian Warren.

The Dragons swimmers and parents really enjoyed the gala and were made to feel very welcome by the Gala management and officials. Special thanks goes also to the other teams, particularly local rivals Ruthin, that helped and supported club event manager Ailsa Humphreys on the day.

North Wales Swimming sat up and took notice of Denbigh Dragons Swim Club last weekend. A definite force for the future.

Thursday 27th October Swansea Invitation Trip

Denbighshire Delivers in Swansea

A team of 20 young swimmers from Denbigh Dragons Swim Club represented Denbighshire at the national Aquatic Festival, Wales National Pool Swansea.

Denbigh Dragons are delighted that they were asked to represent the whole of Denbighshire at this prestigious swimming festival. This is reward for the tremendous support the club and leisure centre have given the Free swimming initiative. Many thanks must go to Steve and all the staff at the pool.

All 22 authorities in Wales were invited to take part in competition including mixed relay and water polo.

A very early morning start ensured the Denbighshire team arrived in good spirits and raring to go. The teams ages ranged from 7 to 15, and all gave an excellent account of themselves, especially the disability swimmers and youngest members of the team.

After a long journey and having an awful lot of fun on the way the team finished a very respectable eighth overall in relay competitions and only lost a very close match to Cardiff, the eventual winners, in the water polo. Denbighshire won handsomely in their other polo matches outscoring opponents more than 3 to 1.

The people of Denbighshire can be proud in the manner this young group of swimmers represented them. Praise has been heaped on the team and their supporters. The organisers and staff at the National Pool would welcome back the Denbigh team that showed "enthusiasm, courtesy, and sportsmanship".
